Hard to believe this photo is a month old already… it was taken the evening of August 8, 2010. I walked into the bedroom and saw that my husband and daughter had fallen asleep together on the “big bed.” They looked so sweet and peaceful together, their faces alight with the late afternoon / early evening glow. The moment was so perfect I just had to try to capture it.
I love this picture for its innocence and imagery. I love the idea of the little girl having her father behind her–he has her back, if you will–protecting her even while they sleep. I love the physical representation of the spiritual reality that our Heavenly Father watches over his children in this way, though He never sleeps. The idea of a father / protector is very significant to me because I didn’t have that as a child, and it is a loss I have felt very deeply throughout my life. I am so thankful that my daughter has an earthly father, as well as a heavenly one.
In looking for a Bible verse or passage to go with this picture and my interpretation thereof I came across this familiar chapter, which has brought comfort to many people in my life over the years.
Psalm 23 (King James Version)
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
